Thinking About Your Business From the Inside Out

by Trish on June 18, 2010

Most business owners look at how their business looks from the outside: logo, marketing, structure.

The new emerging business of 2010 looks at themselves from the inside. They take the core of who they are as a business and they spin this out to their market. They don’t hide behind their HR that is a dizzying pyramid of legalese and impersonal paperwork. They don’t talk to their employees as if they were robots and they are definitely not scared of social media and using it as a way to create a community of buyers who don’t have to immediately spend money to get what a solution. This business has customers for life. This business never has a professional face versus a private face. This business doesn’t have to change anything about them simply to do business. They can do it while waiting for a table at their favorite restaurant, in person or via their smart phone. Or they do it while relaxing pool side with their iPad.

The emerging business model that is possible with all the new tools available with social media and the online world have flummoxed a lot of businesses. How does a day care center use Twitter to truly engage the parents of their young charges? How can a hair salon utilize Facebook when only 10% of their customers are even online? How can an HVAC company use a blog to become the premier eco-friendly heating and cooling company in a multi-state region?

These questions are those this blog seeks to answer.
